Educating Now to Build the Values
and Skills Needed for the Future

WELCOME TO
SAINT JOSEPH SCHOOL
Thank you for your interest in who we are and the work we are doing for children and their parents in the Farmington community. For over one hundred years, our school has been grounded in the belief that Jesus' call to love God and treat others as you would like to be treated is not just pious words or wishful thinking, but an attainable reality. We are Catholic, but we are open to and welcome families of all faiths. Our parents, faculty, staff and administration are a team. Together we work to build an educational environment in which optimal learning opportunities can be provided for the children we serve.

We have facilities that are safe, clean and lend themselves to the educational program we provide.

We are accredited by an association approved by the U.S. Office of Education. Our teachers are certified.

OUR ACADEMIC
PROGRAM
Saint Joseph School serves children from all-day kindergarten through grade eight. Our curriculum includes religious education, reading with a strong phonics and literature base, written and language skills, spelling, mathematics including Algebra I and higher for students who qualify, science, social studies, vocal music, computers and physical education.

ACTIVITIES FOR
STUDENTS
Student activities include a very active Student Council, Speech Team, Yearbook Club and parish sports teams which include soccer, volleyball and basketball for boys and girls.

Other student activities include: the DASH program, Red Ribbon Week, Geography Bee, Catholic Schools Week events, Various math, art and science contests, liturgical choir, Advent and Spring music productions, Grandparents Day, the Education Fair and an after~school Japanese Club.

OUR FAITH LIGHTS
THE WAY
Our Catholic students participate in sacred liturgy once each week. They also prepare for the reception of the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist in grade two and Confirmation in grade eight.

Students continually seek to be of service to others. Canned food drives, collections for helping a child in a third~world country and many good works inspired by our love for Christ are the usual and not the exception. We also pray daily for anyone who asks. Prayer requests may be phoned to the school office between 7:00a.m. and 4:00p.m. on any school day.

PARENT HELP IS
A BLESSING
We have a very active Home and School Association. They meet four times a year. This group strives to assist in supporting the students' activities and many other projects to help boost our school spirit and enrich the instructional program

Parents also volunteer to serve as coaches for athletic teams, the speech team and other activities.

Some volunteer to serve on our Parish Board of Education, Home and School Association Board, the Marketing Committee and the Athletic Association.

HOW WELL DO OUR
STUDENTS DO?
Each year the students in grades two through eight take the Iowa Test of Basic Skills. Scores from these tests show our averages to be above those of the Archdiocese as a whole. Since the Archdiocesan scores are always above average, our children do even better. That says a lot about our students and our school.

WE STRIVE TO KEEP
PARENTS INFORMED
We maintain excellent communication links with parents through weekly news notes, parent~teacher conferences and the parish bulletin.

SCHOOL BREAKFAST AND
LUNCH PROGRAMS
Saint Joseph School offers students the option of purchasing breakfast or a hot lunch at a very reasonable price each school day.
